City of Edmonton Field Spraying
To ensure the safety and usability of the sports fields in Edmonton, the city will be assessing fields and spraying low-risk herbicide (iron chelate) as needed. This is one of the safest broad-leaf weed control options that the city has available. It dries quickly, does not have a strong odor or leave any chemical residue, and does not pose any health or environmental risks.
Treatments will be happening for the rest of June and through July, then a second treatment will be applied a few weeks later. The city will work to complete spraying in time so we can use the fields in the evenings. Signs will be posted to advise people when the fields will be sprayed, and when they are safe to use. This should not be a problem for any of our league games, but we just want to let people know in case there are any concerns.
